The Grandview Bulldogs girls  track team started their practice for the 2015 track season on Monday, March 2. The girls finished last season with the Class 4 state championship in Jefferson City. The girls took home their very first girls track state championship trophy.

“It feels like I’ve actually accomplished something and I feel honored to be a part of history,” said Junior Irea Brown. Brown contributed to the state win by winning in the 4×2 with teammates Anglerne Annelus, Sydnee Mitchell, and Natesha Smith.

Some of the team’s goals for this year is to win state again but in more events. The coaches have set many goals for the team and the standards are set really high. The girls are gunning for their second state championship, which is said to be the hardest to achieve.

One of the leaders on the girls’ team is Anglerne Annelus, who is a individual state champion in the open 100m and 200m. She plans on upholding her legacy for her senior year at GHS. She recently signed for a full ride at the prestigious UCLA for track and field for her college career.

Another leader for the girls is Junior Sydnee Mitchell. Mitchell plans to be first in the state in the open 400m dash.

“As an upperclassman, Sydnee pushes her teammates and motivates them with her dedication,” says coach Dana Bedwell.

The girls’ first track meet will be held at Blue Springs South, April 2. The team is planning on starting the season how they would like to finish it, stronger than ever!
