Utah Jazz Guard and Grandview High School graduate Alec Burks returns to the high school hardwood Friday, Feb 14 when he and other former GHS players will be recognized during halftime of the Raytown South/Grandview boys basketball game (7 p.m. tip).
Burks was the first-round pick (12th overall) of the Jazz in 2011. He scored 10 of his 26 in the game’s final two minutes. Burks scored a career-high 34 against the Denver Nuggets a month ago-January 13.
While at Grandview, Burks was named the 2009 Gatorade Player of the Year in Missouri and won the coveted DiRenna Award, given to the top high school basketball player in the Kansas City area. Following his graduation from Grandview, he went to the University of Colorado.
“We’re excited to have Alec and all our former players come back,” said Randy Farris, GHS boys basketball coach. “He’s a great example for our student-athletes and a wonderful ambassador for the city of Grandview.”
