First competition for GHS marching band is Saturday

A new marching band season is upon us and the band is more than ready for its first competition Saturday, Sept. 27 at Carrollton. Seniors Karina Moody and Jasmine Florio say that they are excited for this competition because it’s a huge drill and a great way to end their senior year.

Seniors Joey Parker and Laura Casey, and junior Miranda Carr are the drum majors this year. They plan on improving the band’s transitions on the field.

Denize Lewis-Johnson, a sophomore, says she’s nervous about the competition because she doesn’t want a repeat of what happened last year; not being able to place in drum line. However, she feels that the music this year is better because it’s Disney, and everyone loves Disney music.

Senior Karina Moody, thinks that the Disney theme is a brilliant idea because everyone is familiar with the theme. “This year theme is incredible, and I think everyone will really love Disney because we grew up on all of these songs.” says Karina.

Leaving this year is bittersweet for Moody; she’s sad to leave her younger class men band mates, but is also excited to go off to college and be a part of an even bigger band!
