KYLE, TX — A man charged in a 2015 double homicide in Kyle has been arrested in Tennessee and is awaiting extradition to Texas, according to Kyle police. Larry Simon is accused in the deaths of James “Jim” Wright, 45, of Kyle, and Tina Combs, 44, of Arlington.
Police said Simon is charged with capital murder and will be returned to Texas to await trial. The arrest marks another step in a case that has stretched across years, with investigators first tying Simon to the killings in 2021 after a lengthy probe.
Officers found Wright and Combs dead during a welfare check in 2015
The investigation began on June 25, 2015, when Kyle police responded to a welfare check at Wright’s home in the 800 block of South Sledge Street. Officers found both Wright and Combs dead inside the house.
Subsequent autopsies determined that both deaths were homicides. That finding turned the welfare check into a murder investigation and set detectives on a yearslong effort to identify the person responsible.
Simon was named a person of interest early in the case
Police said Simon was a known associate of Wright and was identified early in the investigation as a person of interest. That connection kept him in the focus of detectives as they worked through the evidence over time.
After years of investigation, officers obtained warrants in 2021 charging Simon with capital murder. Kyle police said he was initially charged in February 2021 while he was being held in the Hays County Jail on unrelated charges.
