Grandview’s Football season came to an end on Wednesday Nov. 6 when the team traveled to Southwest Baptist University to face the Bolivar Liberators. Traveling there with a record 5-5, they faced the Liberators, who were 10-0. The Bulldogs were ready play, but the game didn’t go as Bulldog fans would have liked. The Liberators won the game, 42-14.
As the countdown of the game came, the spirit bus came and released the Bulldog fans, who formed a tunnel for the players to run through as they entered the stadium.
The Bulldogs won the coin toss and gave the ball to the Liberators for the first half.
Senior Jesse Preyer started the game off when he kicked the ball to the Liberators. Bolivar answered the kick with a 76-yard run, setting them up in scoring position.
The Liberators quickly scored on 3-yard touchdown run, taking a 7-0 lead.
Grandview quickly tied the score with a touchdown and a successful extra point attempt with 8:34 remaining the first quarter.
Touchdown after touchdown, both teams were just at it.
Bolivar scored another touchdown when running back Drew Legan ran for 13-yard touchdown. With 7:35 remaining the first quarter, Bolivar led 14-7.
The Bulldogs responded when Desmon Tyson scored a Bulldogs’ touchdown to tie the score 14-14 with 5:15 left in a crazy first quarter.
Bolivar responded, scoring a touchdown to take the 21-14 lead.
Entering the scoreless second quarter Bolivar picked up a Grandview interception as the quarter ended.
Bolivar held the led 21-14 at halftime.
Halftime ended, and both teams hit the field. The Liberators started the second half with a 1-yard run for a Liberator touchdown. The Grandview defense couldn’t hold Bolivar’s offense, allowing Bolivar to add another touchdown and extend their lead to 35-14.
Bolivar’s special teams recovered a fumble with 3:54 remaining in the contest. Bolivar converted the turnover for the Liberators’ sixth touchdown of the night by running for a 14-yard touchdown.
The Liberators recovered a Bulldog fumble with 1:52 left in the game and ran out the clock for to seal the 42-14 win.
The Bulldogs football season ended with the record of 5-6.
