Seniors have been waiting for this day most of their lives — the day when they finally get to close this chapter in their lives and begin a new one. To some it feels like it has taken forever and for others it came too soon, but most students are just happy to be out of high school and ready to experience new things. They’re all ready to take their last few steps out of these halls. One student has said that it’s exciting to know that their day is finally coming to graduate.
Prom signaled that the end of the school year is at hand. Prom was April 6 at The Diamond Club at Kauffman Stadium.
“It was really beautiful and I enjoyed myself, but it’s a staggering reminder of my last days with some of my classmates,” said senior Aikiela Wilson.
One would think they would be a little emotional about leaving, but senior Terry Smith says he is glad to not see any underclassmen anymore; he’s simply ready to go.
Seniors’ last day at the high school will be May 16, just four days before the big graduation.
Seniors are making the best out of their last days at GHS, taking care of last minute requirements.
“I’m making sure all off my stuff is together, grades are right, and fees are paid,” said senior Alexis McDowell, which what most of the seniors are doing as of now.
“I feel wonderful,” said Abrea Arrington with the biggest smile.
They are counting down to May 20 when they’ll be able to walk across the stage at the Independence Event Center. Graduation will begin at 7 p.m. It is expected to be a packed house, full of proud family and friends.
