The Grandview Bulldogs earned a hard-fought Homecoming victory under the beaming lights on Oct. 4, defeating the Raytown South Cardinals 27-21 in overtime.
After the tough regulation period, the Bulldogs sealed the victory in overtime, when Jerel Alexander ran for an 11-yard touchdown.
“When I got the ball, and Apa Visinia pancaked a dude, I knew I was about to score. This is my first winning touchdown, so this was a good feeling and it was Homecoming; it’s just great,” Alexander said.
The stands were packed with Bulldog fans that were ready to see a victory, along with cheerleaders and the Bulldog mascot.
“Seeing the fans stay for overtime really pushed us to win,” said senior Christian Hunley.
Fridays night’s hard-fought, overtime win provided an exciting conclusion to a week of Homecoming activities. Sending the Cardinals home with a loss was an added benefit for Bulldog fans.
Alexander led the team’s offensive effort, scoring all the Bulldogs’ touchdowns.
The Bulldogs will continue to battle this Friday, Oct. 11, when they go on the road to face the Belton Pirates.
