In just a few weeks, every student in Grandview High School will take possession of $1,200 Macbook Air laptops.
“All the laptops are here and they will be launched in October,” said Principal Steven Scraggs.
Students are looking forward to having the technology at their disposal.
Cameron Dean, a senior, says, “This is a great idea. This will be a great learning experience kids at Grandview need.”
Joshua Rand, a junior, agreed, saying the computers will allow students to complete lessons in different ways than before.
“It’s also something different we never had at our school,” Rand added.
With the added technology in the hands of students comes an added responsibility.
According to the Grandview High School 1:1 Student/Parent Laptop Handbook, “If a student forgets his/her laptop at home, the student may rent a loaner laptop for the school day from the IT help desk. The fee for renting the laptop will cost $5 per day. The loaner laptop must be returned to the IT Laptop Help Desk before the end of the school day or additional charges will occur.”
“I think it tells the students to be more responsible and to not leave their laptops at home,” Dean said.
Another change students are looking forward to is the addition of student email addresses.
“The student emails will be launching the same time as the laptops,” Scraggs said.
