Student poets enter area competition

At Grandview High School Mrs. Dana Dixon is the creative writing teacher and also teaches English. She is currently mentoring a poetry group that is participating in Louder Than a Bomb in the KC Metro Area.
Louder Than a Bomb is a competition in March against 10 schools in the metro area. Students at Grandview High school meet on Fridays for two hours. There are six students involved and the students are required to write three individual pieces and three group pieces.
“The group piece is the hardest because the four individuals that do this have to get together and collaborate on a topic, style, presentation and format,” stated Mrs. Dixon.
The Louder Than a Bomb competition has three rounds and it is a single elimination and each round are different days at different locations.
This is, however, the first year Grandview High School has participated in Louder Than a Bomb.
Mrs. Dixon stated, “I feel like we have some strong poets and I’m hoping we can go beyond round one with the fierce competition we’ll have. I believe we have enough talent to go to the finals.”
