The Grandview Bulldog baseball team is pretty happy with its 5-2 start! Already with a couple of blowout wins, this year’s baseball team is looking pretty good. Led by Luke Whitaker, River Lee and Jr. Sykes, the team already has big wins over Raytown, Raytown South and Oak Grove.

Luke Whitaker, captain, says his senior season is “kind of like the deadline.” Basically, it’s time to get to work on the field and in class to make it to college and play, he said, adding that he “needs to put up big numbers.”

Regarding the season so far, Whitaker said, “The team is off to a good start at 5-2 in their conference, and the team is a family on and off the field. We stick together no matter if we make mistakes. We make sure to bond as a team.” He continued by saying, “You have to make sure everybody does their job and stays close because you have to play as a team to win.”

Micah Blankenship thinks the team started off much better than last year and right now they’re looking pretty solid and looking for a district and conference championship. He also said, “Everyone’s pitching is pretty good and that they’re on pace to win a conference and district championship that’ll be the first one in years.”
