JaKori Bell and Shantrell Williams represented Grandview’s wrestling team at the state wrestling meet Feb. 20-22 at the MU Arena in Columbia, Mo.

“It went really well. It was not exactly what they wanted, but it was a good atmosphere,” said head wrestling coach Jeremie Picard, adding that he is extremely proud that both beat the top wrestlers in their brackets.

“Placing in the top six at state was incredible, and only being a junior makes it even more unbelievable!” says Williams. He plans on going to state next year, and ending his senior off with a bigger bang.

Even though he advanced to the state meet, Bell said he was not satisfied with the results. He plans on improving next year, and placing in the top three next year.

“Even though I had an upset, I still believe I should’ve placed,” Bell said.

Williams beat the number 1, 2 and 5 wrestlers in his bracket.

Both juniors have done an incredible job this wrestling season. Although it wasn’t as good as they expected, next year will be better. Both said they expect next season to be their best yet.
