The Grandview boys basketball team started its season off with a bang! The team won its first game of the season against one of their rivals, the Ruskin Eagles.

”Ruskin was a very energetic game. The crowd was involved and the gym was packed! We were losing and came back as a team and won,” said junior Darrius Walker.

The team’s current record is 5-5. Team members say that one of their highlight games of the season was against Pembroke.

“We actually played as a team in that game, and that’s what got us that win,” said junior Shelton Stevens. They plan on playing as a team for the rest of the season and winning all of their upcoming games.

The team seems to be excited about playing at the Sprint Center on Martin Luther King Day. The Bulldogs will be playing Northeast.

“That should be another one of our highlight games of the season. We plan on going in and win by a great margin,” Walker said.

The Bulldogs will also be taking on the Raytown South Cardinals Feb. 3 at Raytown. Raytown South has always been one of Grandview’s rivals and one of their have to see games every year.

“It’s gonna be a tough game, but we plan on winning at their house and our house,” Walker said.

“I’m very happy with the progress we’ve made with such a young and inexperienced team,” said Head Coach Reggie Morris.

Morris says he is excited about the next 17 to 18 games that they have to develop and prepare for districts play-offs.

The Bulldogs’ next game will be against Truman at Grandview on Jan. 16.
